There is a tremendous amount of energy and interest around International Corporate Volunteering (ICV) in the US at the moment and I was struck by a number of things at the recent conference in Washington.

The New Year is now upon us, yet despite the depressing outlook for the Euro and the impact that the property market crash has had on the Spanish economy, it was heartening to see more than 100 people at the recent Global Corporate Volunteering in Madrid hosted by Fundacion Codespa.

A recent report estimates that by 2013 Emerging Markets will produce more than half of global output and the IMF says that by 2030 this will rise to two thirds. In less than 10 years, China’s economy will overtake US’s economy in terms of total size.
 
Last month, I was making a presentation to the ILA (International Leadership Association) with Microsoft. We were presenting our award-winning Front lines program, through which Microsoft leaders develop global leadership skills by using action learning. It helps partners working in the emerging world deal with strategic challenges.
 
Going on an overseas assignment is often cited as been a ‘life changing experience’ by participants and it was great to be at an event which celebrated and recognised the International Learning Opportunities programme that Emerging World runs for the Welsh Government in partnership with PSMW.
