Development Dreams Become Reality for Indian Charity

As a charity, it’s not always easy to find and fund the niche skills necessary to complete those important specialist projects that will build your organization.

Dream a Dream was started in 1999 to empower children from vulnerable backgrounds with life skills and at the same time sensitise the community with active volunteering leading to a non-discriminatory society where unique differences are appreciated. Based in Bangalore, India, Dream a Dream develops life skills through fun and engaging programs using mediums like sports, creative arts, mentoring, outdoor adventure, computer education amongst others. These enable children to meet, interact, build confidence and ultimately get a better chance at life. Over the next few years, their vision is to take their Life Skills programme to every child in the country.

Emerging World’s relationship with the charity began back in 2006, when Dream A Dream was just a small charity with big ambitions. Now, they empower more than 3000 children, referred from 12 NGO partners, through an active and enthusiastic base of 1500 volunteers in Bangalore. To date, they have benefitted from three short term assignments - most recently Ernst & Young - to help them review their IS systems and finesse their strategic goal setting.

“It’s been a successful partnership. Matching of skills and requirements is key,” explains Vishal Talreja, Cofounder & Executive Director of Dream A Dream. “It also helps tremendously that the assignees work with our team to achieve the shared objectives.”

“What started off as a one-off assignment has developed into a mutually beneficial long-term partnership,” explains Ed Williams, Board Advisor to both Dream A Dream and Emerging World. “The partner organizations gain access to the skills, experiences and personal networks of senior people within large organizations, thus better enabling them to build capacity, scale-up and meet the challenges they are facing. The client companies are able to offer innovative, impactful and highly engaging bespoke development opportunities to their senior leaders.”
