ILO Programme

The International Learning Opportunities (ILO) programme invites managers and leaders from across Wales to spend up to eight weeks in sub-Saharan Africa developing their own leadership capability.

Participants are matched to assignments at a range of partner organizations driving social change in Cameroon, Lesotho, Uganda and Zambia.

The ILO programme stretches and challenges participants’ capabilities, allowing them to work more creatively and resourcefully. Having increased levels of self-awareness, participants also gain insight into their own motives and personal resilience.

The programme is delivered by Emerging World in association with the Welsh Government’s Public Service Management Wales (PSMW) and is funded by the Welsh Government’s Wales for Africa Framework. The skills developed will make a positive contribution to the Millennium Development Goals.

Some of the skills we ask applicants to demonstrate are:

  • Ability to work effectively with others
  • Ability to manage and motivate a diverse group of people
  • Ability to influence and negotiate by actively listening and questioning

If you are based in Wales and think you’ve got what it takes to make a difference in Wales – and in the emerging world visit the PSMW website to find out how to apply.
