Leadership Development is under constant pressure to demonstrate the value that it brings to the business and yet surveys regularly indicate that employees choose to work for organizations that offer strong development initiatives to staff and place a strong emphasis on employee learning. Another differentiating factor (just ask any campus recruiter) that prospective employees look for in their employers are strong corporate ethics and a commitment to CSR.
A few years ago, I was one in a meeting with a Group Head of Learning and Development at a major corporation and the conversation turned to discussing how to calculate the Return on Investment (ROI) of leadership development programmes. Interestingly, the individual said to those gathered that it was a near-impossible ask and he challenged anyone in the room to show him a truly compelling ROI for a leadership development initiative because he had never seen one!
