When teams come together to develop employee engagement initiatives with different starting objectives, the result can often be greater than the sum of its parts. When designed thoughtfully, these programmes don’t just create social impact; they also align with the strategic needs of multiple business functions while fostering collaboration, innovation, and shared purpose.
At Emerging World, we specialise in designing and delivering programmes that:
- Address diverse business objectives: We align programme goals with the needs of various teams—be it HR, Diversity & Inclusion, Leadership Development, or Sustainability—ensuring every stakeholder finds value.
- Ensure impactful participant experiences: Through co-creation with partners, we design initiatives that challenge employees to apply their skills in new ways, engage meaningfully with their peers, and deepen their connection to the company’s purpose.
- Deliver measurable impact: For the community partners that are supported, the participants who take part and the business itself: the outcomes are tangible and transformative.
Aligning Sustainability and Learning & Development Objectives
This was precisely the case with a recent employee engagement programme that brought together the Sustainability and Learning & Development (L&D) teams of a global corporation. One of the key strengths of the programme was its ability to address the diverse objectives across these different sponsoring teams. For Sustainability, one priority was to provide tangible support to their community partners, aligning with their commitment to create meaningful social impact. For L&D, their goal was to develop leadership competencies in selected participants, fostering growth and capability within the organisation.
Emerging World worked with the company to design a programme that brought together employees from different regions and business units to support non-profit partners in addressing complex challenges that they were facing. Split into teams of six, the employee teams collaborated to create a communications strategy for one partner while helping another with strategic planning.
By engaging employees in impactful community projects, the programme not only strengthened the organisation’s ties with its partners but also provided participants with hands-on leadership experiences, equipping them with the skills to navigate complex challenges–effectively meeting the objectives of Sustainability and L&D. And the impact was significant: participants reported transformative personal growth, with 90% stating they would recommend the experience to their peers. Partners gained new clarity on their challenges and left with actionable strategies to achieve long-term goals.
Giving Back AND Building Bridges
These programmes are not just about giving back—they’re about building bridges, fostering innovation, and creating meaningful connections across teams and communities.
As we look to 2025, we’re excited to help more organisations create opportunities for connection and collaboration, and to explore how Emerging World’s approach to employee engagement can strengthen the social impact work we all strive to advance.
