The Opportunity

EY sought a high-impact experience to prepare emerging leaders in the UK and Ireland for Partnership. Future leaders needed to influence without hierarchy, build trust across differences and lead effectively in uncertain conditions. EY also wanted to strengthen participants’ connection to the firm and its broader societal contribution.

The Journey

Emerging World designed a three-phase experience. Participants travelled to Kampala, Uganda for a shared immersion experience before working on live organizational challenges. Early exposure to local economic and social realities helped build trust within the cohort and encouraged open dialogue.

Participants then worked in small teams with social impact organizations on strategic and operational challenges. Using a structured questioning approach (Action Learning), they focused on understanding issues before proposing solutions.

After returning home, participants continued collaborating with partner organizations while receiving virtual support.

The Transformation

Participants returned changed in how they lead, not just what they know. Partner organizations progressed funding strategies, sponsorship efforts and strategic planning. Participants reported measurable leadership growth and stronger cultural awareness.

  • 90% reported becoming more effective leaders.
  • 100% reported increased loyalty to EY and improved self-awareness.
